IT TAKES A FLOCK OF HELP

Our chapter is in the middle of a very busy season and I would like to share with everyone what our Board is up to and how hard they work.

Diane Goldberg has shown wonderful leadership skills and accomplished a well-planned event to plant native plants in a county park.  She partnered with St. Lucie Co. Environmental Resources and many volunteers (33!) at the Becker Preserve in Ft. Pierce.  She chose the plants, grew some herself, ordered more and even made soft pillows for the volunteers to kneel on or sit on.  The group was able to plant 150 different plants of all sizes in three hours!  Kudos to Diane and her commitment to “Plants for Birds” Initiatives!

Our Membership Chair, Carol Pembroke, along with our Corresponding Secretary, Jan Nuhn, have worked out the details of contacting all people from St. Lucie County who have joined the National Audubon Society to let them know about our local chapter and how to join.  Ed Bowes designed a two-sided postcard and had them printed, the ladies took all the home addresses provided by National Audubon and sent the postcards out to about 200 prospective members.  This was a large undertaking and it was done so professionally and efficiently.  A huge thank you to this team effort!

Our annual fundraiser, the Adams Ranch Tour and Breakfast, has been sold out and the first of the three tours has been accomplished.  This takes a lot of coordination and we are very lucky to have Events Chair, Harriet Scott, our Treasurer, JoAnn Stillman, and our wonderful webmaster, Mary Dodge, handling all the reservations online and making sure all the customers are happy and have a great experience.  Without these ladies we would not be able to raise our needed funds each year.  We totally depend on this fundraiser to manage our chapters expenses.  Thank you all!

Doris Brookens, our Birding Adventures Chair has worked all year on scheduling monthly field trip experiences for us.  She is a part time resident, but manages to handle all the months even though she is up north.  She has had many challenges, but has come through with very interesting and new field trips to provide us with great birding opportunities.  A big pat on the back to Doris!

Thank you all! Our Board is a great team and working diligently all year to operate our chapter business so the meetings and events are successful and interesting. There are others or course, so I will continue to share more with you next month!
