FEB. 8, 2014, SLAS FIELD TRIP REPORT
LAKESIDE RANCH STA

Our trip to this fairly new Stormwater Treatment Area, where Martin Co Audubon leads tours in cooperation with the South Florida Water Management District , turned out to be a great day of birding close to home!

The early morning fog lifted shortly after our group of 22 birders gathered at 8 am at this beautiful wetland site that straddles the Martin- Okeechobee border.  Under the leadership of our member John Nelson (who also is member of Martin Co. Audubon),  and with help from Fran from Martin Co Audubon, we had almost four hours to explore the area and were well-rewarded for our efforts with 64 species found.

This is a place we will be sure to return to!
